False Alarm
The Truth about the
Epidemic of Fear
By Marc Siegel
John Wiley & Sons, NJ
$24.95 / 246 pg.

Fear has been a constant aspect of Americans lives since the events of September 11th 2001. We have been subjected to terror warning alerts, anthrax attacks, West Nile virus scares, Avian Flu virus scares, and constant rhetoric about being vigilant in the face of danger.

Marc Siegel, a practicing physician in New York City, has experienced fear not only through his own eyes but that of countless patients, morning television hosts, and colleagues. His experiences have led him to a thorough understanding of the function of fear in humans as well as who is manipulating our fear emotions and how.

Marc Siegel is not your typical media and government critic. He has been an expert guest on morning television shows such Good Morning America, testified in front of Congress, and practiced medicine in New York City before, during and after September 11th. His wisdom will inform and calm those who read this book.

Crossing the Rubicon
The Decline of the American Empire
at the End of the Age of Oil
By Michael Rupert
(www.fromthewilderness.com)
New Society Publishers
$22.95 / 674 pg.

If you would like more information regarding the events of September 11th than the Official Commission provided in its report to the public then you need to read this book. Much, if not all, of the content in this book is controversial. But unlike the 9/11 report Crossing the Rubicon is filled with notations citing sources.

From author Michael Rupert’s perspective 9/11 is part of an ever-evolving world of smoke and mirrors. From official Government documentation of FDR knowing Pearl Harbor was going to happen to the documentation of the actions of Nixon (who employed many of the same people as the both Bush Presidencies) Americans have officially been lied to—this has now been proven. The documentation of events from multiple sources that occurs in this world of information allots scholars, authors and reporters with more accurate knowledge than ever before and if they chose to can construct a clear map for others to read.

The content of this book will make you mad. Whether you believe all the information in this book or not you should track down the sources of Ruppert’s information via the internet and Congressional record to discredit it or validate it. The Devil is in the details and Crossing the Rubicon is filled with little Devils.

The Long EmergencySurviving
the Converging Catastrophes
of the Twenty First Century
By James Howard Kunstler
Atlantic Monthly Press / $23 / 307 pg.

James Howard Kunstler provides the reader with a sobering look at the history of humans. Blame is not laid in this book. Instead, Kunstler speaks of the systems that have been created and ways in which they have acted.

A web is woven through the passages that leave the reader with a holistic view of where and why we are where we are. The Long Emergency lifts you out of the fray of conspiracies and into the sobering light of what lies ahead for this planet. Kunstler stresses that we have many choices to make now, and down the road, that could greatly benefit or harm our prospects of survival. The big decision, according to Kunstler, is how to exist outside of the cheap petroleum energy sector that is rapidly becoming very expensive, and potentially unavailable.

James Howard Kunstler is also a member of the Board of Directors of the MetaFoundation which seeks to start, develop and offer organizational assistance and financial support to programs, projects and organizations that will help humanity to transition to new ways of living through research, policy analysis, education, communication and demonstration projects.
